She started out as SS Medina, a freighter, carrying onions. (We found a large cache of onions in her holds when we bought the ship in 2010 and we have been serving century- old onion soup in our hotel ever since. Try some when you’re here. It was in 2010 when the Grand Old Lady received her latest makeover to become Doulos Phos The Ship Hotel. With her sailing days behind her, she is poised to be a unique icon in Bintan Resorts as a dry-berthed ship hotel, fully visible from the bottom of her hull to the tip of her mast.
